Money & Banking

Business Hours: Banks: 09:00 – 15:00 (Mon-Fri), some open Sat morning.
ATMs & Credit Cards: Available in most cities. Credit cards widely accepted.
Currency Limits: Declare amounts exceeding US $5000 for re-exchange.
Currency Exchange: Exchange at banks, money changers, and hotels.

Clothes & Accessories

Dress Etiquette: Use your right hand for giving, receiving, and eating. Cover legs and shoulders when visiting temples.
Temple Visits: Modest clothing is required; long attire is a must.
Hotels: Some require formal wear for dinner.
Casual Wear: Light, breathable clothes suit warm weather.
Swimwear: Wear only at beaches or pools, cover up elsewhere.
Footwear: Comfortable, easy-to-remove shoes are for temple visits.

Language & Communication

Internet Access: Most hotels provide internet facilities. Cyber cafes are available in most towns. Some hotels offer free WiFi to guests.

ETA Charges: Tourist visa with Double Entry for 30 days: US $15 for SAARC countries, US $30 for other countries.

Travelling & Photography

Best Travel Season: Dec–March (West, South & Hill Country), May–Sept (East Coast).
Photography Tips: Respect local customs when photographing. Photo processing is available at franchised shops.

Health & Safety

Mosquito Prevention: Hotels provide repellents; you can buy more from local markets.
Health Concerns: Emergency healthcare is available in major cities. Vaccinations for Yellow Fever and Meningitis may be required.

Food & Lodging

Local Cuisine: Don’t miss trying Ceylon Tea and strong local coffee. Halal and vegetarian options are available in major restaurants.
Water & Beverages: Drink bottled water. Fresh fruit juices and local drinks like Toddy and Arrack are available.

Smoking & Alcohol

Smoking & Alcohol Laws: Smoking and alcohol are banned in public areas. Abstinence is practiced on Poya (Full Moon) days.
